One of the most important decisions a parent can make is that of selecting the proper education for their child(ren). It is with this thought that I welcome you to our Webpage and the overview it offers of Harare International School.

I have just arrived at HIS this year, and as the parent of a high school student, I eagerly visited the Website prior to coming here. As the new Director of the school, I am especially pleased to introduce you to this fine school. I hope that you will find the information offered on this Website of use to you, whether you are prospective teachers interested in working here, or you are prospective students and parents. Please explore our various links to learn about our excellent school.

HIS has developed rapidly into a world-class school from its humble beginnings in 1992 as a primary school located in a residence in downtown Harare. We are now, 15 years later, well-established on a bucolic 22-acre campus in the suburb of Mt. Pleasant with superior facilities which have won both the architects and engineers design and environmental awards in Europe and in Zimbabwe. HIS is also fully accredited by both the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools & Colleges and is rated as "comparable" by the U.S. Department of State, attesting to the school’s adherence to the high standards set by these organizations.

Our aim, as stated in our mission and philosophy, is to educate the whole child: physically, intellectually and aesthetically. In doing so, we offer an academically challenging program, yet one which is child-centered and nurturing. This requires our faculty to balance academic and individual concerns as well as stress the process of learning so as to ensure our students’ understanding and application of knowledge. It also demands we offer a full slate of extracurricular activities—athletics, music, art and drama among them.

HIS offers an international curriculum with the best practices and materials selected from systems around the world. We are an authorized IB World School offering both the Primary Years Programme and the IB Diploma Programme. HIS has an impressive record of college and university placements as well as university scholarships.

We welcome our parent community as partners in the education of their children and pride ourselves on a highly effective Board of Directors, a committed Parent Organization, and a talented and dedicated staff.

We take very seriously our responsibility not only for educating the students entrusted to us but also for their safety and security while they are are in our care.

I look forward to corresponding with and meeting you. Please do not hesitate to contact me at polson@his.ac.zw

Sincerely yours,

Paul Olson
