Director Andrew DerryWelcome to the website of Harare International School. Inside these pages you will find a wealth of information designed to give you an overview of this wonderful school. HIS has developed in to a world-class school from its humble beginnings with 42 students enrolled in 1992 as a primary school located in a residence in the suburb of Milton Park in Harare. Now it is well established on a beautiful 22-acre campus in the suburb of Mount Pleasant and enjoys excellent, purpose built and award-winning facilities. In addition, HIS is accredited by both the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Council of International Schools. It is also authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School.

At HIS, we consistently remind ourselves on one simple fact:
It’s all about student achievement!
It might seem simplistic and obvious, but research shows that too many schools become adult centred over time. Whether it is academic, sporting, creative, social or character development, at HIS we educate the whole child and ensure that each and every individual achieves their full potential.

At HIS, we concentrate on skills and not just content, on the individual student and not just the individual subject. We find ways to challenge and stretch students; yet give them the skills they will need to meet the challenges of the 21st century. We balance modern pedagogical methods with rigorous and clear standards that promote continual improvement at all levels. We maintain the highest expectations, and our students have a tendency to live up to them.

We recognise that education does not start and end at the school gates. We promote a culture of learning and high expectations that extends throughout the whole community. Our parents are kept fully informed and actively engaged at all times. In addition, we expect our students to lead by example, and we instil in them the values needed to become active and compassionate citizens, locally and globally.

No matter how good we make the website, it cannot convey the atmosphere you experience when you visit us in person. As such, I would strongly encourage you to spend some time on the campus if possible. I look forward to meeting you and showing you our excellent school in person.
