INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The Information Technology Department recognizes the ability to utilize technology as an essential life skill. Technology should improve, augment and support the curriculum and delivery of instruction. Students, teachers, staff and administrators must have full access to technology and expert training in its use. Equipment, curriculum, methodology and expertise must be reevaluated regularly and kept current and functional to ensure an excellent program.

Harare International School Technology courses are designed to stimulate learning, build self-confidence, inspire creativity and self-expression. Each level emphasizes specific applications that demonstrate and teach a multitude of computer related skills. Students learn to use the computer as a tool to access information, which must be analyzed, evaluated and applied. Through the use of cross-curricular projects, cooperative and self-directed learning, students develop higher order thinking skills such as problem solving and critical thinking.

All students need to achieve essential computer-related skills prior to graduating from high school. These skills will allow each student to use technology as a tool in their present life and future occupations. The Harare International School has adopted Technology Skills Checklists for all grade levels.

The Harare International School is dedicated to technology. We maintain three modern computer labs each capable of hosting an entire class at the same time. Every classroom is also equipped with at least one computer. All labs and classrooms are connected to our HIS Network. Our HIS Network provides high speed Internet and Email access via a radio link, as well as central file storage. All students, Grade 3 and up (with parental permission granted by signing Acceptable Use Policy) are provided HIS Network accounts giving them full access to all available services.
