Various types of communication help us to be understood and to understand.

An inquiry into:

-What makes communication effective

-Different ways of presenting a story

-Our need to be understood

-Physical structures used in oral communication

-Identifying conflict situations, expressing opinions and suggesting group strategies for resolutions

September/October

How We Organize Ourselves

Central Idea:

People collaborate to produce mass communication.

An inquiry into:

-How a newspaper article is written

-Roles of different personnel

-How is a newspaper is published

-Meeting deadlines through collaboration

 

 

 

 

 

 

The students needed to learn how to collaborate in order to tent together successfully, complete survival activities, and produce a newspaper!

November to January

Where We Are in Space and Time

Central Idea:

All things change through interaction over time.

 

An inquiry into:

-Evolution of mankind

-How stone age people lived

-How stone age people developed

 

The students studied the evolution of hominid species in depth, presenting seminars, a tool exhibit and a Fabulous Friday explanation of the development of man.  As part of their study they worked as clans of early humans to experience the lifestyle of ancestors endured.
