Welcome to the Grade 4 page.
We
recently completed our PYP Inquiry Unit, Inventing Minds.
The Central Idea was:
People create and adapt inventions to meet
a specific need.
It was an inquiry into:
How significant inventions shaped the world
The inventive process
What it takes to be an inventor
What it takes for a group to be an inventor
A major part of this unit was studying the
inventive process first hand. Each student had to invent
something to meet a specific need. They also
worked in groups, building a robot and writing a computer
programme to control the robot and solve a particular problem.
The culmination of this was the Invention
Convention where the students displayed and explained their
inventions to visitors from all grade levels in the school.
They were judged on their inventions by
their peers and a team of judges from the school faculty.
