‘s language arts program is literature
based. Through the analysis
of literature students will develop higher levels of comprehension and
critical thinking and attain an appreciation for the beauty and power of
language and imagination. An understanding of the complexity of the
human spirit as portrayed in both classic and modern literature will be
obtained. Units are
thematically based, focusing on grade appropriate
developmental or personal
experiences to help bring
life to literary ideas.
By writing about and
discussing literature, students will learn to speak and write
articulately and effectively using acceptable English, adjust tone and
style of writing and speaking for a variety of purposes and audiences,
support statements using well-founded facts, theory and opinion,
logically reach conclusions based on sufficient evidence, effectively
organize ideas in a variety of ways, and demonstrate creativity through
style, organization and development of content.
