GROUPS 1 and 2:
LANGUAGES
GROUP 1 LANGUAGE A1
(ENGLISH)
Language A1 is a literature course designed for
either native speakers of English or students with mother tongue fluency.
The aims of the A1 program are to:
Develop articulation skills and powers
of expression through extensive oral assessment.
Encourage a personal appreciation of
literature and to develop an understanding of the techniques involved in
literary study and criticism.
Introduce students to literary classics
and a range of modern writing.
Promote an international perspective
through the comparative study of works from the student’s own culture
and other cultures.
Students study a total of fifteen works at
Higher Level and eleven at Standard Level. These texts are a combination
of world literature and literature written originally in English and are
divided into four parts for assessment purposes.

GROUP 2 MODERN
FOREIGN LANGUAGES
As Language B
(i.e.. for non-native speakers of
the language): French, Spanish at both Higher and Standard levels.
As an ab initio
language (i.e. for students
who have never studied the language): French, Spanish.

Normally students
will need at least 4 years background experience to enter B Higher
Level. For B Standard Level 3 years previous experience is desirable.
